Seasonal FAQ
The FAQ below was shared before the launch of Season 1 and will equally help those only just joining for Season 2. Some differences for Season 2 may apply.
(1) What is the "Seasonal" server?
The server is a direct copy of our Arua server with all of its features enabled, but with additional "perks" which can have a positive or negative effect on game play. We aim to have 4-6 perks enabled each season, and may let the community vote on which should be enabled in the upcoming season. Perks will remain the same throughout a season. It has been designed to be completely chaotic, but hopefully providing a short term challenge and fun for anyone who wants to try it out - it is a completely optional way to experience the game, and you can simply ignore its existence if it isn't for you.
(2) What exactly are "perks"?
We've so far compiled a list of over 20 perks, including:
- Changes to the Stat and Stat Points system
- Changes to the Skill system
- Changes to monsters, which may include their stats, what they drop, and/or how you/they interact
- Changes to equipment, which may include their requirements, and/or stats
- Changes to the way you level and gain and/or lose experience
- Restrictions on what core features you can use
Perks are meant to alter game play in ways that you've never experienced the game. If you have ideas on new perks, feel free to suggest them to us and we'll add them to our list!
(3) How can I see what "perks" are active this season?
When you log in, you will see this window giving you a full overview of what the Seasonal server is and which perks are enabled:
You can also hover over the new icon below your character infobar at the top left, and clicking that icon will show the above window:
(4) Is this a replacement of "x", shouldn't we be doing "y" instead, is your focus not going to be on "z"?
The Seasonal server does not replace anything and takes no development time away from anything. As it is a direct copy of our Arua server, we do not have to maintain any additional files to support the server, and all changes required to enable a perk are done so in the core code of the game. To get to this point, we've only spent around 3 hours on preparation for launch. Seasonal will receive no updates (but updates to Arua/Classic will be applied mid-season if necessary) or support.
(5) How long does a season last? What happens at the end of a season?
A season is intended to last 3 months. At the end of the season, prizes will be rewarded on our Arua server (and possibly Classic, if we can agree on a set prize package) to players who achieved the most Season Points. Prizes
may include AruaPoints, Event Points, special costume(s), a share of the total Zulie generated this season, a choice of rare items, unique titles, and auras. We are also considering some real-world prizes, similar to the special events we have done in the past. At the end of the season, the Seasonal server will be wiped clean. Unspent points in the Item Mall will carry over to the next season. If the general idea doesn't work, then we simply won't launch a new season.
(6) Is "[feature name]" enabled on the Seasonal server?
Every feature enabled on Arua will be enabled on Seasonal, including, but not limited to, Game Arenas including Seth's Shrine and Tomb of Sorrows, Item Mall, Auction House, Market Place, Duels, Lottery, ...
(7) How do I gain Season Points?
Season Points will be awarded to you based on your general activity of the game. This will include levelling, taking part in Game Arenas, PvE and/or PvP activities, and more. You won't be able to view your Season Points, and there will not be a viewable leader board, but we will publish the full leader board at the end of the season when the points have been calculated and how the points were calculated. There is no right or wrong way to play Seasonal - play solo, in a small group, a large clan, play Game Arenas, PvE or PvP - and importantly, your choice may change (or have to change) each season.
